Scholarships help many of the students to meet their learning expenses. One of such a scholarship is the Fulbright scholarship. The US government has decided to introduce such a scholarship for the international students to enhance the relationship between the United States and other countries. The scholarship has been awarded to 300,000 candidates already and is given to those who excel in their leadership and public activities.

The introduction of the Fulbright scholarship was in 1946 and was done by the Senator of Arkansas Mr. J. William Fulbright. This scholarship is sponsored by the US department of State's for educational and cultural affairs bureau. 7,500 new candidates are benefited by this scholarship every year. The applicants must have proven track records in their cultural and leadership activities.

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs prepared the guidelines for the Fulbright scholarship. There is a board of 12 members who are being selected by the US president. All these members are either educational leaders or opinion leaders and are authorized to plan the rules and regulations for the management of the scholarship. Their duty also includes the design of eligibility criteria to be followed while selecting candidates for the scholarship.

Different categories of the Fulbright scholarships are available, e.g. the Fulbright specialist program. Another on, the Fulbright visiting scholar program, is given to 850 international students from around 95 countries to students who perform a post doctoral research at the US institutes.

Colleges and universities in the USA are also sponsored with the Fulbright scholar-in-residence program to arrange lectures for international students on different topics.

The Fulbright scholarship Visiting Specialists program is entirely for the Islamic society to reach a higher education. The Fulbright New century scholars global program is another one given to the best 30 research scholars and professionals across the countries.

Fellowships are given for students who wish to take graduation from colleges and schools. To encourage the international artists and professionals a scheme named Fulbright Foreign student program is planned. For teachers from primary and secondary schools, a Fulbright teacher exchange program is also arranged.
