Easy Scholarships to Win in 2010
Many people hold a false misconception that in order to be awarded a scholarship, they would have to go through a lengthy selection process, attain amazing grades, write a stellar essay, and be a strong leader. While many more prestigious awards fit this bill, it is not the case with all scholarships. As a matter of fact, there are hundreds of easy scholarships to win.
The first requirement for winning many of these scholarships is not an official one... Do your research! While there are many scholarships that stand out to everyone (the big payouts), smaller scholarships usually have fewer applicants, which means less competition. If you are able to find scholarships that you qualify for that are very specific, your chances of winning those scholarships jump a substantial amount. Some of these extremely specific scholarships may revolve around students who play a unique sport, students who are fluent in other languages, or even for students who are taller than a certain set height. There are also often local scholarships, sometimes linked to elementary schools, locales, churches, or neighborhoods that can narrow the field of applicants quite a bit.
While these scholarships may be easier than most, there are none that you can simply hand in your name and get a check cut out to you. If you want a hand out, I recommend checking out federal grants. Your chances are much better when you prepare for your applications. If you become active in extracurricular activities, this alone will look great on most applications for scholarships and college applications alike. Seeking leadership positions and getting a job are also great steps toward jumping out of the page. Also, improving your GPA and taking more advanced classes looks better in all applications.
So before you become overwhelmed with the possibilities of getting a large scholarship, think about the more specialized and smaller scholarships, as even small amounts begin to add up. The easy scholarships to win will be the local, unique, small dollar scholarships, and you will better yourself in your society by preparing yourself for the applications
