Students that are not academically inclined often find themselves wondering how they will ever be able to afford to attend college. A mistaken belief is that scholarships are only available to those students that have the highest intellect. This belief leads to thousands of young people forgoing college because they cannot afford the expense. This is a waste of potential because there are actually quite a few scholarships available for the middle of the road students. Students do not always have to have the strongest academic record if they can showcase their skills, talent, and ingenuity in other areas.
There are plenty of random scholarships that students can choose from. These include actual scholarships that require a student to apply and qualify before being chosen. These are usually targeted more towards community service endeavors and extracurricular activities. Other scholarships are awarded based on the winners of contests. These are scholarships that can be won by any student, with any academic record. As long as they win the contest, or at least place, they will get a predetermined amount of scholarship funds. Scholarships such as these make it possible for anyone to be able to have a chance to attend the college of their choice.
