College Athlete Scholarship - Show Coaches You Have What it Takes
Many high school athletes are looking to make it to the next level and receive a college athlete scholarship. What many of these student athletes don't realize is just how stiff the competition is to receive a college level scholarship to play sports.
The Top Three Percent
The truth is that only about 3 percent or so of all high school student athletes will ever receive a college athlete scholarship. That means you can't just be an average high school athlete and expect to make it to the college level. You must be among the best players in your sport to make it. However, don't fall into the trap of thinking only the blue chip or superstar athletes can get recruited. Those athletes get recruited for the Division I scholarships, but there are still plenty of other opportunities available at the lower division levels.
Flying Under The Radar
A sad fact is that each and every year there are student athletes who could receive a college athlete scholarship, but they are simply "flying under the radar" of college coaches. These athletes just are not getting the publicity and recognition they deserve and therefore college coaches may not know anything about them. It happens far too often.
The Total Package
College coaches look for the total package so to speak in the the athletes they recruit. They want athletes who have:
- The talent and skill required
- Good character and work ethic
- Good enough grades to stay qualified to play
- The desire to do what is asked of them (such as accepting a different role)
- Mental toughness
