Hispanic Scholarship

If you're Hispanic, and are thinking about going to school, then there's plenty of grants and scholarships out there for you to take advantage of. These grants and scholarships are designed to help those of Latino heritage to make their schooling dreams come true, and give people from minority groups the same chances that everyone else has.
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund provides students with programs just for Latinos. One of these programs is the Gates Millennium Scholars program. This program offers help to students of all ethnicities, including those of Latino descent. Billand Melinda Gates' Foundation developed this program in 1999 and it's still available today to graduating high school seniors. If you have a high GPA, you're eligible to receive one of the awards from this program, regardless of what kind of degree you're pursuing. You must have a 3.3 GPA average, and you need to demonstrate a real need for financial aid and excellent leadership capabilities.
Another foundation that offers scholarships for Hispanics is the Margoes Foundation that works in accompaniment with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. This program is really only for Latino students living in the San Francisco area and who also take part in the College Connect program. You can receive a reward as high was $2,500.
Through the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, you can get assistance from the General College Scholarship Program. There's a lot of competition for these awards, but they are only applicable for Latino students who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the US of A, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and are intending on pursuing a full-time course of study in a degree program - whether it's two or four years - in order to qualify. These awards are available to both graduate and undergraduate students, but only so long as it's the first degree they're trying to get. You can receive between $5000 and $1000 in reward funds.
If you're looking to get your degree in the fields of math, science, technology or engineering (ie., the STEM field) you might be eligible for scholarships offered through the Hispanic Scholarship Fund that are provided by Proctor and Gamble Co. Hispanic students with a GPA of 3.0 or greater are eligible for a $2500 scholarship, although the scholarships are limited according to what area you live in. Students need to attend school on a full-time basis in a degree program within the US or another qualifying territory.
These scholarships all require that you fill out the FAFSA before you try applying for them. The FAFSA determines how much financial need you're going to require and helps committees decide which students they are going to contribute their money to. If you want to find out more about programs that help Latino students achieve their schooling goals, then check out the Hispanic Scholarship Fund or speak with your school's financial aid or guidance counselor.
