College Golf Scholarships - How You Can Play at the College Level

Are you wondering about college golf scholarships and what it really takes to play at the next level? If so, this article can help you understand how the recruiting process works and how you can put yourself in a good situation to be recruited.
Very Competitive
Golf has seen a tremendous of popularity among young people all across the country. This is great for the game of golf, but for a high school golfer looking to make it to the college level, it means the competition has gone to a much higher level. You have to be among the best high school golfers to make it to the college level.
Currently, there are about 490 schools that offer golf scholarships for men and around 340 that offer women's scholarships. These scholarships can be found at all division levels (except Division III) for both NCAA and NAIA schools.
The Scholarships
Here is how the college golf scholarships break down for the NCAA
Division I Men - 4.5 Scholarships
Division I Women - 6 Scholarships
Division II Men - 3.6 Scholarships
Division II Women - 5.4 Scholarships
Scholarship numbers in the NAIA are similar.
Get Noticed
A select few golfers each year are able to be recruited and offered scholarships without any action on their part. They are the "best of the best" and gold coaches are standing in line to sign them to a scholarship. These golfers are commonly referred to as "blue-chippers."
For everyone else, you need to take some action to put yourself in line for a golf scholarship. The specific action you need to take is marketing and promoting yourself. You can do this pretty easily by sending them your athletic resume along with a personal letter from you. Most of them will be happy to hear from you if you have the talent and skills to help their program succeed.
