Interest Based Scholarships - What Few Students Know
There are thousands of scholarships for college out there. Some of them range from $100 to several thousands of dollars when awarded to someone.
All you have to do is take the time to look for them. Many students procrastinate, waiting till the last minute to start thinking about how they will pay for their tuition only to find themselves filling out several popular scholarship applications in which they are competing again thousands of other students at the same time. A person who does this will find themselves in a bad spot come the first day of classes.
So here is a word of advice: start with interest or experience based scholarships. Even if your passion is semi-wacky there is someone else with means who loves it and has set aside money for other people who love it as well.
What do I mean by that?
We all know the big categories that most people look at when searching for free money. Gender specific, race/ethnicity specific and academic specific are the big ones. Each state and most big cities give out scholarships as well to people who stay home to go to school. Everyone knows about those and they are the first places people look to when they begin their search.
Its not entirely a bad thing. There is a lot of money funneled into those categories but keep in mind that is also where most people look. So when you apply there you are up against a lot of numbers!
Here is the good news...
Most people have no idea about "interest based scholarships" and this is where you will have the most success for your time.
