Unique Scholarship Opportunities For Latino Students

Latinos comprise the fastest growing minority population in the United States. Many of them are considered "first generation" college and university students. Because many of their parents haven't had experience with higher education, Latinos have been part of an outreach effort whereby professionals in the field have been arming them with information about issues such as financial aid, which can include scholarships that don't have to be repaid. There are also many Latino adults who have college and university experience.
Scholarships for Latinos do extend to graduate school studies that provide students of any background increased income potential and improved job security even when economic times are bad. Studies have shown that salaries tend to coincide with the level of education that an individual has and that unemployment rates tend to decrease as the levels of college and university degrees increase.
Latino students can find scholarships to help with one of the most popular of graduate degrees, which has been the MBA, or Master's in Business Administration. The National Society of Hispanic MBAs offers scholarships to Latinos who are pursuing part-time or full-time MBA studies at a college or university that is accredited by the American Association of Colleges and Schools of Business. Accreditation signifies that a college or university provides a quality education - and it's often required in instances where students want to obtain scholarships as well as transfer academic credits. Often, accrediting agencies must be recognized by the US Department of Education, which maintains a database on its website of agencies and accredited institutions and programs that students and families can search.
When it comes to MBA scholarships specifically, the National Society of Hispanic MBAs makes scholarships of $2,500 to $10,000 available based in part based on minimum grade point averages; however, the greatest amounts - $10,000 - are provided to those who have financial needs and who are studying full-time. Students have some ability to renew these MBA scholarships and in helping students to avoid financial challenges, they might at the same time help them to continue working toward their degrees without interruption.
It's not all about business, either, when it comes to scholarships for graduate studies. The Hispanic College Fund, along with the McNamara Family Creative Arts, offers scholarships of as much as $15,000 to graduate students as well as undergraduate students in instances where they are participating in certain studies. These studies include writing, communications, performing arts and film and media.
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund has teamed up also with the Marathon Oil Cooperative Office Education to offer $3,000 scholarships to students who participate in the COE program. Through this offering, undergraduate and graduate students are able to renew their scholarships for a second year.
Scholarships often are provided to specific groups of students when they are considered underrepresented in certain fields. That tends to be the case with Latinos in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, where students might look for graduate school scholarships.
