If you are seeking scholarship programs, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that there are also funds available for online homeschool classes. There are scholarships you will quickly find that it is a very broad category. The Internet contains over 11 million topics, which vary from elementary school scholarships to ones offered by graduate schools, private trusts, government, individuals, corporations, and non-profit organizations worldwide. Certainly this widow was not alone - there were other parents committed to homeschooling who were facing very hard times without the help of their spouse. Within four months, this altruistic man formed his own trust - the Widows Fund, and with great tenacity presented to the HSLDA to administrate. In addition to funds available to fund online homeschool classes and other home school learning alternatives, there are additional funds available for emergency situations. If you are a widow with special needs children, please contact our offices before downloading and filling out this application. Widows and widowers of children with special needs should contact the HSLDA before completing the online application. For those who are renewing their applications, renewing their applications, the deadlines for application are March to May 1st, and August to October 1st. Applications received after these dates will be considered for the following enrollment period.
Don't be disappointed if the dollar amount per scholarship is no more than $250 or so. Students and parents committed to online homeschool classes must remain diligent when seeking funding. Often, students seeking funding have to apply to many scholarship programs in order to accumulate enough money to pay for books, supplies, uniforms, and tuition. Also, keep in mind that competition is usually very fierce, so an applicant for a scholarship award does not always 'win' much money. It takes a lot of time and patience to fill out forms, get letters of recommendation, and other documentation to complete a scholarship application. Therefore, start early!
