Rowing is a specialized sport which means you are competing with fewer athletes like you would be in a sport like basketball. That's the good news. The bad news is that far fewer college offer rowing as a competitive sport.

There are currently 84 division I and 15 Division II colleges that could offer you a rowing scholarship. The NCAA allows each of these colleges, Division I and Division II, to have twenty scholarships.
As a rower trying to make it to the college level, you need to know that the level of competition is very high. College coaches will only select the most qualified athletes to join their program. If you get the chance, you should get out and watch some college events to get a feel for the type of competition you would face at the college level.
