The Miss Los Fresnos Scholarship Pageant 2011

The Miss Los Fresnos Scholarship Pageant first began in 1993. Pioneer Henry Harlan Whipple was the first to donate seed money to the pageant. Mr. Whipple and his wife Ethal Whipple were one of the first of five pioneer families to settle in the Los Fresnos Area. Mr. Whipple wanted "The Intellect and Beauty to represent this Town".
The Pageant was developed and taken on by the Los Fesnos Chamber of Commerce. It was from 1993 to 2001 that the crowned winner was awarded a $500 scholarship.
In 1998 under the direction of Debra Badeaux and a volunteer committee made up of Diana Salazar, Yolanda Almaguer, Ovilia Tapia, Dorothy Badeaux, Sandra and Manuel Saldivar, that the Pageant took on a new form by creating a Scholarship Pageant Program that included workshops and extensive rehearsals. It was with the help of the Chamber of Commerce leaders such as Dora Romero, Mercedes Cantu, Irene Romero, Enriqueta Abrego and Don Badeaux, that Mrs. Badeaux was able to solicit the area businesses for a larger scholarship to create an incentive for local students to vie for the Title of Miss Los Fresnos. "LFCISD Students don't want material gifts they want money to continue their education" says Badeaux.
In 2002 Elizabeth Sanchez was the first recipient of six $3,000 scholarships awarded in the next 6 years. In 2007 the pageant took on more change, as Badeaux resigned and the Pageant was contracted out to a Pageant production company, the $3,000 scholarship reduced to a $2,000 scholarship. Three more $2,000 scholarships were awarded.
This Year the Miss Los Fresnos Scholarship Pageant Program will go back to what the Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce Board considered was an ideal program. With the support from the City, The City's Development Corporation and the LFCISD, the program will provide broad workshops as well as extensive rehearsals and to date will have awarded more than $25,000 in Scholarships. The Program also goes on to include the titles of: Little Miss, Miss Pre-Teen and Jr. Miss. It will again go under the direction of Mrs. Badeaux, of Twisted Sound Productions.
The Miss Los Fresnos Scholarship Pageant Program not only informs the girls on Community Awareness, Economic Development, Health and Beauty tips, Etiquettes and stage presentation it helps female students with self esteem, it brings out the shy girl inside all of us and by learning to socialize with each other. The girls become a part of a group that says "I got on stage, had fun and I gave it a try." states Badeaux.
