How to remotely access your PC
Remote access lets you connect to your home PC, for example, from any computer in the world. Depending on which version of Windows you are running, you can use Remote Desktop Connection software, which is built into the operating system.
The later your version of Windows – such as Windows 7 – then the better and more fully featured the application is. To launch it, click on Start > Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection.
You will need to know the name of the computer you are trying to connect to on the network – or its IP address – as well as the required login details. It’s mainly designed for use across local networks, but in many cases, it can be a real challenge to get connected.
Often, a better alternative is to use a free VNC (Virtual Network Connection) client. A good option isUltraVNC. Install the software on the computer you want to connect to and set it to start with Windows.
You can now run the client from any computer in the world and connect to your home PC. You may need to configure your firewall.
