Students all over the country are needing to apply for scholarships to help them pay for school. Money is tight. Mom and dad may not have the funds to cover a college education...especially if you ARE the moms and dads. But did you know that you can increase your chances at getting a scholarship if you focus on those that are just open to students in your state?
Each state has loads of scholarships that are open only to the residents of that state. This is also true of cities and towns. And if you live in Indiana, here is a list of scholarships that are unique to this state:
  1. Hoosier Scholar Award: This is a merit-based scholarship for Indiana residents only. And you must plan on attending a college in Indiana to receive this award.
  2. Nursing Scholarship: For this one you must be a state resident of Indiana, enrolled either full or part time in an accredited nursing program, have a GPA of 2.0, demonstrate financial need, and agree to work at an Indiana Hospital in need after graduation.
  3. Minority Teacher/Special Services Scholarship: To be eligible, you must be an Indiana resident minority seeking a teaching certificate or any student seeking a certificate in special education. You must also show financial need and be admitted at an acceptable institution of study.
  4. Robert C. Byrd Scholarship: To apply for scholarships, you must be an Indiana resident enrolled in an institution of higher education with high test scores and a GPA of 3.0.
  5. Indiana Engineering Scholarship: This is available to students who have already attained half of the credits required for an undergraduate engineering degree. To qualify you must also be a resident of the state of Indiana and either attending a school in Indiana or commuting to one outside of the state.
Applying for scholarships that are unique to your state will increase your chances of winning, as long as you meet all other requirements. These contests are not as competitive as nationwide ones and you will only be up against those in your state...not the whole world.
But, by all means, do not limit yourself to only these available scholarships. Once you apply for scholarships in your state, then go for the bigger ones. Locate those that fit your area of study or maybe even a hobby you have. There are many scholarships available each and every year, but if you do not apply, you cannot win.
But even if you do not live in Indiana, you can a $10,000 scholarship. Just register for FREE at the Scholarships for Dads.
Remember, finding scholarships should always be free, so don't ever pay to apply for scholarships.
